A functional surface has specific properties
With regard to extruded aluminium profiles, we define a functional surface as one that has specific properties that are very important, such as abrasion resistance and antibacterial requirements.
Abrasion characteristics can be improved considerably by anodizing. Layer thickness, alloy composition and anodizing parameters all affect durability.
If you have very strict abrasion requirements, however, I recommend hard anodizing. It is a process that has been specially developed for high-performance surfaces of this type.
When it comes to antibacterial requirements, let me start by saying that aluminium already has an inherent ability to hinder the viability of viruses and bacteria. Still, various techniques and antimicrobial additives have been developed specifically for use in aluminium finishing processes, providing anti-bacterial benefits and more hygienic products.
