Jan Tore has a PhD in electrochemistry from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. As part of his work for Hydro, he is responsible for the surface laboratory at the company's aluminium research department in Karmøy, with focus on corrosion testing, electrochemical analysis and surface analysis (GD-OES).
The automotive industry often uses the ISO 11846 Method B standard to determine whether 6xxx-series aluminium alloys have intergranular corrosion (IGC).
